Richard James Gray, 70, of Washington, passed away peacefully at the Donnell House, surrounded by his family on January 23, 2023. He was born July 14, 1952, in Washington, to the late James Richard Gray and Dolores Maria Aquilino. Richard graduated from Trinity High School in 1970, where he was part of their wrestling program. He held as Associates Degree in electronics, was a machinist at one time, and a diesel mechanic, retiring from Overnite Transportation Company. Having contracted polio at 18 months old, Richard never let his disability get in the way of living and loving as much as he could. He had a huge sense of humor, quick wit, a kind spirit, and a huge heart, helping whomever needed it. He coached his daughters’ softball teams when they were young, taught them as much as he knew, and to not take crap from anyone. He enjoyed fishing, camo, tinkering with various electronics and gadgets, and was a gun enthusiast. He collected Geisha Girl China and Kung-Fu movies, but he especially enjoyed times spent with his family. On February 21, 1975, he married the love of his life, Sharon Lee Hull, having had almost 48 years together. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters Stephanie Lynn (Daniel Smith), and Christy Ann (Shannon Layton); a son, little Frankie; granddaughter, Alexis Felix; grandson Mason Smith; and great-grandson, Gavin Polito, all of Washington; a brother, Gary Gray (Sabrina) and sister Donna Smalley (Ray), half-brother, Chris Tarr (Betty Lou), all of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his brother, James Richard Gray, Jr. At the family’s request, all services are private.
