Richard Allen Earnest

Richard Allen Earnest, 81, of Marianna, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2024, in Washington Hospital. He was born September 28, 1942, in Washington, a son of the late George Earnest and Iva White Earnest. Richard was a graduate of Bethlehem Center High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Army, and was awarded the Marksman Badge, Good Conduct Medal and Motor Vehicle Driver Badge. He was a member of the American Legion Post #744 in Marianna. Richard was a furnace foreman for 40 years in the steel industry. For over 50 years, he was an active member of North Ten Mile Baptist Church in Amwell Township. He enjoyed tractors, eating coconut cream pies and watching westerns. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends. Richard’s wife, Patricia Sowers Earnest, passed away April 26, 2013. Surviving are two daughters, Lynne (Frank) Cecchine of Amity and Stacey (Jim) Coon of Washington; a brother, Donald Earnest; six grandchildren, Dante and Angelina Cecchine, Paige and Joshua Deems, and Gracey and Tyler Coon; his best friend, Donnie Wagner; and he was known as “Pappy” to many children. Deceased, in addition to his parents and wife, are a daughter, Kristen Earnest-Deems; a grandson, Gino Cecchine; and a brother, Louis Earnest. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 1, 2024, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, August 2, 2024, in North Ten Mile Baptist Church, 322 Ridge Church Road, Amity, PA 15311, with Pastor Wesley Kavanagh officiating. Interment will follow in North Ten Mile Cemetery, Amwell Township. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post #744 of Marianna and the U.S. Army.
