A private memorial will be held for Richard R.(Dick) Mowl, who passed away May 23, 2017 and for his wife, Mary Margaret(Maggie) Engle Gregg Mowl, who died June 12, 2018. Both Richard and Mary Margaret, after lengthy illnesses, passed awayin their home in the care of their family.An avid hunter and outdoorsman, Richard, was born January 28,1937, in Brownsville, Pennsylvania, the son of the late W.E.Mowl and Anna Bajac Mowl. He was raised by his uncle andaunt, the late Wylie and Permelia Shipe in Lone Pine,Pennsylvania. A graduate of Trinity High School, he worked atMcGraw Edison in Canonsburg and later became a wireman withBethlehem Mine Company. Richard was a member of the UnitedMine Workers of America Local 1197, retiring from 84 MiningCompany.Mary Margaret was born July 2, 1934 in Washington,Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Carl C. (Pug) Engle andMargaret Ruth (Peg) Fonner Engle. She attended Washington Schools and worked at theBrockway Glass Plant before marrying Robert H. Gregg on August 23, 1952 (deceased August17, 1966). For many years Mary Margaret enjoyed helping people in her work as a certifiedmassage therapist and reflexologist.On June 2, 1969 Richard and Mary Margaret were married by Father Alfred C. Cicola in theImmaculate Conception Church in Washington, Pennsylvania. They were the loving parents ofMelody Ann Gregg DePretis, Jody Dee VanVarenberg (Keith), Bobbi Jean Gregg and Surri LynnMowl. They were PaPa and Nanny to grandchildren: Meshach Miller, Mellory DePretis Birner(David), Kyle Cameron DePretis, Keith Richard VanVarenberg, Makala VanVarenberg Turner(Travis), Tristen Bowman and Bella Bowman, and great grandparents to: Meshach John Miller,Mierra Peyton Miller and Melody Lovas Birner. In addition to their children, grand children andgreat grandchildren, Mrs. Mowl is survived by her sisters: Pearl Ann Amos and Karen Jane Sulc(Joe) along with several nieces and nephews. Mr. Mowl is survived by his nephew JeffreySeaman (Debbie) of Charleston, WV.Deceased, in addition to their parents is their precious granddaughter, Sha Lynn Spalding, greatgrandson Gabriel John Birner, son-in-law, Louis R. DePretis, Mr. Mowl’s brothers: WilliamMowl, Frank D. Mowl and a sister, Marceline Mowl King, Mrs. Mowl’s brothers: Carl (Bud)Engle, David Engle and a sister, Laura Lee Cox.The family wishes to acknowledge with sincere gratitude, the kindness and compassion of thespecial ladies, as well as the nurses and staff of Amedysis Hospice Services who assisted incaring for Richard and Mary Margaret.Arrangements were entrusted to William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, PA.
