Raymond W. Plants, 89, of Washington, died on July 26, 2022, in his home. He was born on May 28, 1933, in Washington, a son of the late Berdell and Florence Smith Plants. Raymond was a member of the Church of God, in Wheeling, WV. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean War from May 14, 1953 until his honorable discharge, with the rank of Sergeant, on May 12, 1955. For his service, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. Mr. Plants worked as a steelworker for U.S. Steel, at the Homestead Works, retiring following 37 years, and went on to work as a caretaker at Songer Corp for nine years. A hard-working man who loved to be outdoors, Mr. Plants enjoyed farming, gardening and yardwork. On March 1, 1958, he married the love of his life, Audrey M. Henderson, who died on March 5, 2016. Surviving are a son, William Raymond Plants, of Washington; a daughter, Terri (James) Martin, of Washington; a grandson, James R. (Julie) Martin; a great grandchild, Grace Mae Martin; a sister-in-law, Nancy Grandon; as well as many nieces and nephews. Deceased are two brothers, Berdell Plants, and Vernon Plants; and three sisters, Lila Meneely, Shirley Collins, and Nancy Maloy. Friends will be received on Sunday, July 31, 2022, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m., the time of services, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, PA, with Don Hensen officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Washington City Mission, 84 W.
