On Thursday, Oct. 26, 2023, Phyllis Dale Doria, peacefully left this world to be reunited with her parents, her husband, Earl Joseph Doria, and her daughter, Amy Sue Doria. Phyllis was born on Sept. 7, 1930, in Washington, PA, the daughter of Clarence Oliver (C.O.) and Hilda Ashbaugh. She spent her entire life in Washington and had many jobs over the years. She worked as a switchboard operator at National Annealing Box and at Rosalia Foundling Home, among others. She volunteered her time at the Brownson House where she touched the lives of many children and was also an active member of Fairhill Manor Christian Church, where for many years she sang as a tenor in the choir, performed as an organist and led the children’s choir and bell choir. Her last employer was The Washington Hospital where she worked for many years. She was the organist for William G. Neal Funeral Homes until her health would no longer permit. In December of 1964, she married Earl Doria and inherited his three children: Robert Earl Doria (deceased), Judith Lorraine Doria (James Wheeler) and Mary Ellen Doria (Carl Grebner). Phyllis and Earl had two daughters: Amy Sue Doria (deceased), and Julie Ann Doria (Mark Helbling). There are many grandchildren: Robert Doria, Liz Doria Powers, Karen Doria, Rob Wheeler, Beth Wheeler Kendall, Cynthia Wheeler Greenwood, Michael Stock, Kristin Ann Stock (deceased), Abby Neal (Nick Sell), and Sam, Charlie and Josie Helbling. Great grandchildren are Taylor Wheeler Klepsic, Chris, John and Mary Powers, Emily and Jimmy Morgan, and Reagan, Nina and Cecelia Sell. Phyllis was known for her kindness and wit, her strength in the face of challenge, her unwavering willingness to help others, and her winning smile. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew and loved her. Viewing will be at William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, from 12 to 2 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Nov 5th. Services will be held at The Fairhill Manor Christian Church, 351 Montgomery Avenue, Washington, on Monday, Nov. 6th, at 11am. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bridges Hospice at www.bridgeshospice.org, or Bridge to Home Animal Rescue at www.bridgetohome84.org.
