Our beloved mother, wife, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, niece and cousin, Peggy Louise Day, passed away from this earth at the age of 81, on February 15, 2023, in her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 8, 1941, in Washington, a daughter of the late Russell Lowell and Jean Andrew Shrontz Jr. Peggy was a 1959 graduate of Trinity High School, where she was a varsity cheerleader her senior year. She went on to earn an Associate Degree from Penn Commercial Business/Technical School. She then worked 3 years at Metro Glass before "retiring" to raise her family. She was a member of the Church of the Covenant, Chestnut Ridge Grange, and was a Lady of the Elks. Peggy loved her cats and playing cards. She and her husband enjoyed traveling and cruising, having gone on over thirty cruises worldwide. Her favorite non-cruise destination was Hawaii. She was especially happy that over the years she was able to share her love of that state with all of her children and grandchildren. Peggy loved to shop and browse the gift stores for souvenirs for her grandchildren while traveling. After having to yet again purchase luggage to come home, she learned to ask, "do you ship?" More than anything, Peggy loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She especially loved planning and hosting the family holiday parties and picnics. One of the greatest compliments ever paid to her was from her sister-in-law Christine. She said she and her kids considered Peggy the Matriarch of the family. On September 4, 1962, in Elkhart MD she married the love of her life, Stephen Charles Day, who survives. They enjoyed 60 years, 5 months and 11 days together as husband and wife. Left to cherish her memory are a daughter, Mona Jo (Shawn) Blumer; three sons, Stephen (Lori) Day Jr., Scott (Marna) Day, and Neil Day; three sisters, Sue (Tom) Taylor, Sharon (Phillip) Davis, and Amy McCord; nine grandchildren, Melinda (DeWayne) Wamsley, Christopher Bombash, Jr., Stephen Day III, Christopher Matthew Day, Tyler Day, Emily (Michael) Rush, Luke Day, Samuel Day and John Day; four great grandchildren, Harrison Rush, Flora Rush, Dewy Wamsley, and Payton Wamsley; an aunt, Mona Lee Graham; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends and family are welcome on Sunday, February 19, 2023, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, where services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 20, 2023, with Pastor Linda Day Schmoyer and Pastor Linda Mankey co-officiating. Burial will follow in North Ten Mile Baptist Church Cemetery. The family would like to express their appreciation to the Amedisys Hospice team that helped care for her and her family, and a special thank you to Peggy’s personal caregiver, Terri Adams, for the exceptional care she provided during this difficult time.
