Paul David Powers, of Washington, PA, passed away in his home on Sunday, May 5, 2024, after a brief illness. Paul’s greatest passion in this life was to bring people to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ (John 3:16). Paul was born on June 25, 1950, in Washington, PA, to the late Robert J. and Catherine M. Powers. After graduating from Immaculate Conception High School (I.C.) in Washington, PA, in 1968, Paul acquired his degree and teaching certificate from California University of Pennsylvania in 1973. On June 22, 1974, Paul married his wife, Brenda C. Powers. They would have been married 50 years in June. Paul taught and mentored many individuals throughout his lifetime. He taught in the McGuffey School District, attended Bible school at the Christian Teaching Center in Lafayette, LA, pastored for five years in New Kensington, PA, and then moved to become chaplain at Faith Community Christian school in the South Hills. Returning to Washington, PA, Paul’s “tent-making” occupation was painting contracting while he continued to minister to the Body of Christ in Washington and beyond. Desiring to see the Body of Christ become unified, Paul instituted twenty church blessings where a large group of believers traveled to different churches to hold unified praise services. He also spearheaded prayer and worship gatherings at state capitals in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Ohio. During his time in ministry, the Lord gave Paul the idea of holding a large, yearly Washington County Prayer Breakfast. Over 26 years, the prayer breakfast hosted speakers such as Astronaut Charles Duke, Jim Ryun, Adolph Coors, Eric Alexander, and David Ravenhill, and was attended by hundreds of individuals from the region. Paul also founded Men of Honor Ministries to “train men to develop a culture of honor at home, in the workplace, and at church.” Through Men of Honor, Paul discipled men, led retreats and ministry in Brigantine, NJ, and beyond, and held ongoing spiritual development meetings in Washington, PA. Paul would have wanted you to know that Men of Honor continues to meet on Fridays at 7 am at Harmony House Cafe (47 N. Main St. in Washington, PA), and that any man is welcome to attend to grow in his relationship with the Lord. Paul is survived by his wife, Brenda C. Powers; daughters, Sarah (Fred Pecoroni) Powers and Lydia Powers; siblings: Mike “Bob” (JoAnn), Steve (Susie), John (Denise), Cathy (Deac) Jones, Debby (Steve) Shadle, and Mary (Diederik) Bron; and granddaughters, Brennah and Brielle. Paul would have also wanted you to know that Jesus gave His life on the cross to pay the debt of every wrong thing you have done. His resurrection secured victory over sin and death. If you repent of your sin, confess out loud to God that you want His Son, Jesus, to be Lord of your life, and believe that God raised Jesus from the dead, you will spend eternity with Jesus (Romans 10:9). Visitation will be Fri., May 10, from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm, in William G Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, PA. On Sat., May 11, a pre-service visitation will be held from 9 to 10 am at Central Assembly of God, 155 McGovern Rd., Houston, PA, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 10 am.
