Nora Gayle Mansfield

Nora Gayle Mansfield, of South Strabane Township, died April 13, 2021 at home. She was born March 26, 1937 in Washington, a daughter of the late Hamilton Sweeny and Beulah Mae Tilton McClain. Mrs. Mansfield was a Wash High Graduate, was a registered nurse (Graduate of Washington Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1959), who worked at both Washington and Canonsburg Hospitals, and worked as an industrial nurse for Jessop Steel Company, from where she retired. She was a member of Chartiers Hill Church for more than 50 years, where she was a deacon and sang in the choir. She coordinated blood drives and supported many other endeavors for God. She was also instrumental in the Bicentennial celebration of the church. She was an artist and loved vibrant color, she painted on virtually anything that was plain. She had a penchant for flowers, especially wildflowers, and she gave her children appreciation of nature. She was a member of Swinging Roses Red Hats Society, and Route 19 Thursday morning bowling league. Mrs. Mansfield enjoyed playing 500 bid card game and was in a card club for decades. Much laughter took place among cherished friends and daughters, who also joined her in the card club. She was a 4-H leader Ranchettes, and Cub Scout den mother. On June 12, 1957, in Fourth Presbyterian Church, she married the love of her life, Aaron Boyd Mansfield Jr., who died July 30, 2020. Surviving are children, Pam (the late John) Haschets, Mark (Debbie) Mansfield, both of Washington, Marcia (Dave) Bock of Houston, Jonn (Karen) Mansfield of Washington; 10 grandchildren, Jenna (Bryan) Margaria, Jordan Haschets, Aaron (Katie) Mansfield, Kelley Mansfield, Katherine Mansfield, Jackie (Brandon) Marshall, Liz (Eric) Forrester, Matthew Mansfield, Michael Mansfield, and Shannon Bock; 3 great-grandsons, Zack and Landon Mansfield, Kyler Margaria, and one on the way. Deceased are a son Michael Boyd Mansfield, sisters, Lois Hastings and Irene Walther, and brother Jimmy McClain. She was the last of her immediate family. Anyone wanting to remember Nora in a special way, may contribute to Chartiers Hill Presbyterian Church or Gateway Hospice. Friends and family will be received on Saturday, April 17, 2021 from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm, followed by a service at 1:00 with Pastor Sue Petritis and Reverend Peggy Shannon officiating. Interment will follow in Chartiers Hill Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, PA 15301.
