Nicholas “Nick” Schuj, 73, of Washington, died Monday, December 11, 2023, in his home. He was born January 3, 1950, in Passau, Germany, a son of the late Martin Schuj and Katherina Meyer Schuj. Mr. Schuj served in the U.S. Army from August 28, 1967, until his honorable discharge in 1975, with a rank of Specialist, 5th class. He earned a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, and three Overseas Bars. Mr. Schuj worked as a truck driver for many years. He loved riding his motorcycle, traveling to wherever his heart directed him. He also loved visiting Florida and spending time with friends and family. Mr. Schuj was a member of Immaculate Conception Church of St. James Parish. On May 28, 1982, he married Mary Ann Maleski, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Natasha Schuj; a daughter, Kimberly Eckels; three grandchildren, Amber McCollum (Matthew), Chelsea Lafferty (Alex) and Willow Eckels; and four great-grandchildren, Landon, Camden, Hudson and Everly McCollum. Deceased are three brothers, Robert, George, and Frank Schuj, and a sister, Elizabeth Schuj. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, December 18th, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where a Blessing Service will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, December 19th, with Father Michael Peck officiating. Burial will follow in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies at 2:30 p.m. Military rites will be accorded graveside by American Legion Hunt-Kennedy Post 639.
