Mildred Ruth Johns

Mildred Ruth Johns, of Washington, passed away peacefully on her 87th birthday, Monday February 1, 2021. She was born February 1, 1934, a daughter of Winnie and Alex Wilson. She was a graduate of Trinity High School in 1952. She was employed by Green Valley Packing and Washington Health System. On August 11, 1955, she married CE “Jake” Johns. They celebrated 62 years of marriage, preceding Jake’s passing September 25, 2017. She is survived by her 3 children, Stephen (Tina) Johns, George (Tina) Johns, and Mary (John) Sumney; 9 grandchildren: Angela Johns, Michael Johns, Kendra (Alec) Johns, Kelsey Johns, Kayla Johns, Sarah (Daniel) Stockdale, Daniel (Lexi) Sumney, Shaina (Brandon) Kernodle, Chelsea (Brent) Hartness; and three great grandchildren, Lincoln and Silas Stockdale and Isaiah Hartness. She is also survived by her sister Dorothy Steinstraw. Millie was deeply loved by family and friends whom she never missed an opportunity to spend time with. She loved to cook and bake for others, never allowing anyone to visit without leaving with a full stomach. She enjoyed planting and gardening with her grandchildren. Millie attended St. Hillary’s Catholic Church. Millie was exceptionally cared for in her later years by loving friend, Zofia Tomaceski. A public Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Saturday, February 6th, in Immaculate Conception Church of St. James Parish, with Father John Lynam as celebrant. Arrangements are in the care of William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., Washington. Memorial contributions may be made to St. James Parish, 119 West Chestnut Street, Washington PA 15301.
