Maureen Helen Cooper

November 26, 1930 — August 1, 2024

Maureen Helen Cooper, 93, of Greensburg, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, August 1, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Austin R. Cooper Sr. She was the loving mother to her four boys, Austin (Valerie) Cooper Jr., James (Beth) Cooper, Mark Cooper and Peter (Debra) Cooper. Maureen was born November 26, 1930, in Edinburgh, Scotland, to James and Mary Christie. She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on January 1, 1949. In 1950, in London, England, she met Austin Cooper Sr. at an International Assembly of Jehovah Witnesses. In 1951, she moved to Washington, Pennsylvania, and on February 18, 1952, she married Austin Cooper Sr. She was the sister to her late brother Raymond Christie and surviving sister Rosalind (Roger) Hubbard, who resides in Dalbeattie, Scotland. Maureen was grandmother to the late Jessica Cooper, and surviving grandchildren are, Christopher Cooper, Lauren Cooper Stewart, Alexis Cooper Bair, Madison Cooper Piccolomini, Brian Cooper, Gerald Cooper, Hunter Cooper, Cameron Cooper, Aaron Cooper, Connor Cooper and Seth Cooper; as well as many great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was a faithful member of the Christian Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses and was an avid Bible reader. She and her husband served faithfully in their local congregation and their worship and strong faith was an integral part of their daily lives. Maureen enjoyed traveling and attending international conventions with her family and maintained friendships with her brothers and sisters across the world. Maureen also enjoyed checking out books at the library to read and learn about history. Maureen was a classy, proper Scottish lady, who was always dressed to impress, adorning herself with a matching pocketbook or adored pin on her lapel. She enjoyed simple pleasures in life such as a new perfume, lavender soap bar or herbal tea. It was her strong hope, down to the very end of her life, to be soon reunited with her beloved husband, “Barney.” That hope was real and so strong to them both where they would be together again, in a perfect state of health and be able to see the fulfillment of Acts 24:15 “there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and unrighteous.” While we will all miss our mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, sister and friend, she would want us all to press on and cling to that hope of us all being reunited in the future in a Paradise world. All services are private and entrusted to William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington.
