Mary "Joan" Popeck

Mary “Joan” Popeck, 75, of Washington, died Saturday, May 6, 2017, in The Washington Hospital.   She was born June 4, 1941, in Washington, a daughter of Emma Pyles Smith of Washington and the late Raymond Smith.   Mrs. Popeck graduated from Washington High School in 1959, and worked at West Penn Wire for 30 years.   She enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Tuesday night league and Saturday mixed couples league at Route 19 Bowl.  In addition, Mrs. Popeck enjoyed crafts and scrapbooking, and loved camping, especially at Lake Wilhelm where she had a camp.   Family was her passion.   Mrs. Popeck was a member of Avery United Methodist Church.   Surviving is her loving and devoted husband of 53 years, Anthony J. Popeck, Jr., whom she married on August 10, 1963.   Also surviving are a son, Anthony S. (Laurie) Popeck of Houston; two daughters, Stefanie J. (Talbert) Weimer of Lower Burrell and Stacey D. (Scott) Schlarbaum of Tampa, Florida; two sisters, Barbara J. (Nick) Dubina of Washington and Phyllis M. Smith of Washington; two sisters-in-law, Barbara J. Petty and Kathleen S. Popeck, both of Washington; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth Joan Weimer, Annie Stacey Weimer, Dillon Anthony Schlarbaum, Haddon Thomas Schlarbaum, Jacob Scott Schlarbaum, Trevor Steven Popeck and Brooke Rachel Popeck; nieces and nephews, Nicholas (Tammi) Dubina, Jr., Shelley (Scott) Boardley, Brent (Heather) Dubina, Chris Popeck and Mark (Shelly) Popeck; and great-nieces and great-nephews, Stefanie, Nick, Tyler, Kara, Allen, Kaleb, Jalen, Anthony, Matthew and Danielle.   Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., on Tuesday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 10th, with Rev. Erik Hoeke officiating.  Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
