Mary Virginia Rhoades Church, 91, of Washington, died on September 2, 2021, in UPMC Mercy Hospital. She was born on January 7, 1930, in Washington, a daughter of the late Charles Augustus and Eliza Murphy Rhoades. Mary attended Linden and Wylandville Grade School, and East Washington High School. She was a member of Avery United Methodist Church. Mrs. Church had worked as a cashier at Streamline Foodland and Shop N Save, and at the food counter at Thorofare at the Meadowlands Racetrack. A kind and compassionate person, who cared about both people and animals, Mary donated her handmade afghan blankets to the dogs and cats at the humane society, and to the residents at local nursing facilities. She also enjoyed crocheting, bowling and reading. On July 6, 1951, she married William A. Church, who died on April 19, 2010. Surviving are two sons, William A. (Pam) Church, Jr., and Jeffrey A. (Kim) Church, both of Washington; and three grandchildren, Jason Michael (Jackie) Church, Spencer W. Church, and Adaira (George) Rufer. Deceased are a son, Robert R. Church; and a brother, William John Rhoades. Friends will be received on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, from 2 until 4 p.m., and 6 until 8 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, PA, where services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 8. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
