Martha L. Crawford, 97, of Washington, died peacefully September 27, 2023, in Hawthorne Woods Assisted Living, Washington. She was born September 17, 1926, the daughter of the late James and Celia Jackson Smith. Martha attended Washington High School and was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Washington. She worked at Hazel Atlas Glass, Towers Store, and Langs at the Washington Mall. During the war, her job was making hand grenades and she shared that story with many. Martha loved to shop and was a great baker. She was a caregiver by nature and cared for her family with much love. She enjoyed yardwork and was still weed whacking her own yard up until last year. She also enjoyed bowling and bowled on a league at Alpine Lanes. On February 19, 1944, Martha married Glover Crawford. They renewed their vows on September 7, 1978. She is survived by a son, Raymond (Carol) Crawford; granddaughter, Jayme (Brian) Tuite; grandsons, Dylan and Andrew Crawford; great-granddaughters, Ashleigh and Emily Tuite, and Jordan Grace Crawford; and son-in-law, Terry Martin (the late Sandra Martin). In addition to her husband, Glover, Martha was preceded in death by her son, James Bright; daughter, Sandra Crawford Martin; granddaughter, Jessie K. Crawford; great-grandson, Justin M. Crawford; sisters, Helen Baker, and Jane Fischer; and brother James Smith. Family and friends will be received Tuesday, October 3, 4-8 pm, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, PA 15301. The service will be Wednesday, October 4th at 10 am with Pastor Kenneth Schott officiating. Interment will follow in the Washington Cemetery.
