Martha Brownlee

January 3, 1936 — July 11, 2023

Martha Brownlee, 87, of Washington, formerly of Avella, passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2023. She was born in East Liverpool, Ohio, the daughter of the late James E. Thorne and Delores Schultz Thorne Miller. The family later moved to Mason, West Virginia where she graduated in 1954 from Wahama High School. Marty was a homemaker who loved to cook and bake. She was a 4H leader, a member of the Buffalo Homemakers group and a member of the Grove United Presbyterian Church. For many years she played in the famous “Grove Church Kitchen Band”, traveling around Washington County. On February 14, 1955, she married Paul L. Brownlee Sr, who passed away on June 22, 2005. Surviving is two sons, David (Lynne) Brownlee, and Mark (Dawn) Brownlee; daughter, Lori (Ralph) Ferraro; and daughter in law, Krissie Brownlee; ten grandchildren, Laura, Matthew (Melinda), Justin, Rebecca, Jessica (TJ), Josh (Dawn), Meghan (Matt), Samantha (Mark), Ashley (John) and Benjamin; and many great grandchildren whom she totally adored. Marty is also survived by her brother Skip, and sisters Chris and Connie. Deceased, in addition to her husband Paul is son, Paul Brownlee, and brothers Jack and James Thorne. The family would like to thank Christen Perkins who loved and provided such wonderful care to Marty over the last five years. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Grove United Presbyterian Church, 125 E. Main Street, West Middletown, PA, 15379. Family and friends will be received Monday, July 17, 2023, 2-4pm and 6-8pm, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, the place of service, Tuesday, July 18th, at 10am. Interment to follow in West Middletown Cemetery.
