Marie Edna Schurr passed peacefully on the morning of November 24, 2023 with her oldest son, Nicholas Pascuzzi by her side. She was diagnosed with advanced cancer in October, and spent her final few weeks with Nick and his wife Amy. Marie had many friends and family members visit or contact her during this time. She was her usual upbeat self, and enjoyed these visits immensely. Ms Schurr was born Marie Edna Lempp, on August 8, 1938, to Henry and Winnifred Lempp, in Mount Washington, Pennsylvania. She was the youngest of their six children, and was close to her siblings Harry, Jean, Eleanor, Bob and Carol, who all passed before her. She missed them very much and spoke of them frequently. Marie lived in various places over the years but spent the majority of her life in Hickory. Marie graduated from Hickory High School in 1956, and married her high school sweetheart Nicholas Pascuzzi, Jr. in 1960. They had three children, Nicholas III, Peter and Michael. Nick and Marie divorced in 1979, and she married George Schurr in 1981. George had three sons of his own. They had a lot of fun together but parted amicably after a few years. Ms. Schurr earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Carnegie Tech Margaret Morrison College in 1960. She taught high school science in various schools over the years, including Canonsburg, Fort Cherry and Mt. Lebanon. She also worked as a diagnostic bacteriologist, chemist and sewage treatment plant operator--an odd combination of careers that are unified by her interest in science. Marie valued her family above all else. She is survived by her sons Nick (Amy), Pete (Anjali),and Mike (Stacey), seven grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, but, she was also a strong and independent woman who loved to talk about current issues. Marie did not want a service, and the family asks that anyone that wants to honor Marie should make a donation to Concordia Lutheran Ministries, 134 Marwood Rd, Cabot, PA 16023, or their favorite charity. Arrangements are entrusted to William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, PA.
