Lester L. Barney

Lester L. Barney, 88, of Washington, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 24. 2018, in his home. He was born on June 13, 1929, in Hickory, a son of the late Archibald Milligan and Edith Mae Barney. A graduate of Hickory High School, he was a member of Avery United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Barney was retired from Kopper’s Chemical Company, where he had worked as a truck driver. Lester loved taking care of his wife, and he spent most of his time with her.  He also enjoyed taking walks, and in earlier years, playing golf. His wife, Doris Mae Barney, also died on January 24, 2018.  They had just celebrated sixty-six years of marriage in August. Surviving are three children, Deborah D. (Russ) Riffle, of McClellandtown, Jerry L. Barney, of Orrville, OH, and Bonnie Barney Young, of North Palm Beach, FL; five grandchildren, Dena Weimer, Dori Bowlen, Darci Griffith, Branden Barney, and Angela Shetler; eight great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are several siblings. At the request of the deceased, there will be no public services. Arrangements are entrusted to the William G.
