Lanny C. Dunmire, 75 of Eighty-Four, died Thursday, December 6, 2018 after a short courageous cancer battle. He was born November 18, 1943 in New Kensington, the son of the late Harold F. and Josephine H. Talmadge Dunmire. Lanny was a 1961 graduate of Apollo High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice at Penn State University. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving as a Military Policeman and received the National Defense Medal. Lanny was a Pennsylvania State Trooper at Trooper B, Washington Barracks, retiring in 1995 after 27 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends. He also enjoyed going to the Washington County Fair every year, where he operated Lanny’s Shanty cooking and serving pork, beef and lamb sandwiches. Lanny was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #47 and the American Legion Post #902. On May 17, 1969, he married Sharon Ross, who survives. They moved to Washington County that same year. Also surviving are a daughter, Karrie (JW) Jaeger of Orlando, FL; two brothers, Thomas (Diana Shaffer) Dunmire of Shelocta, PA and Joel Dunmire of Loris, SC; a brother in law, Larry (Jane) Ross of Lower Burrell; a sister in law, Marjorie (Greg) Ward of Apex, NC and several nieces and nephews and his dogs, Cosmo and Sadie his traveling companions. Friends will be received Tuesday, December 11, 2018 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Ave, Washington, where services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 12, 2018. Burial will follow at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. A service by the Fraternal Order of Police will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 11, 2018. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post #902 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #191.
