With profound sorrow, we announce the peaceful passing of Katherine Ann Gavatorta Bernola, affectionately known as Kathy, Nona and Aunt, on May 4, 2024. Surrounded by her loving family, Kathy departed this life to join our Lord and reunite with her beloved relatives who have gone before her. Kathy was born on April 4, 1934, in Langeloth, Pennsylvania, to Stephen and Anita Filipponi Gavatorta. She grew up in Langeloth/Burgettstown, Pennsylvania, attending Our Lady of Lourdes Grade School, followed by Union High School, from which she graduated in 1952. Kathy's journey of love began with her marriage to August “Gus” Bernola on June 27, 1953. Their marriage flourished over 62 years until Gus's passing in 2016. Kathy initially worked at R.C.A. in Canonsburg, PA, during the early 1950s before dedicating herself to raising their three children. Renowned for her culinary skills, Kathy found joy in cooking and baking, always eager to share her creations with loved ones. Her home was a hub of warmth and hospitality, cherished by all who had the privilege to gather at her table. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her children, Richard (Billie Jo) Bernola and Anita (David) Lindberg; her adored grandchildren, Ashley (Chris) Canning, Katie (Taylor) Bernola, Amanda (Michael) Bernola, Derek (Bekah) Cummins, Deja (Jay) Barton, Savannah (Matt) Bucey, and Ricky Bernola; and her treasured great-grandchildren, Noah, Norah, Parker, Landon, Asher, Laurel, and Zoey. She also had many nieces and nephews with whom she loved very much. Kathy was predeceased by her beloved husband, Gus; son, Thomas Bernola; her siblings, Jeane Furst, Lois Fuller, and Steve Gavatorta and his wife Donna. In accordance with Kathy's wishes, there will be no public viewing. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
