Julia Rock

October 16, 1923 — August 2, 2024

Julia P. Rock passed away peacefully on August 2. 2024 at the age of 100. She was 10 weeks shy of her 101st birthday. Born on October 16, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Charles (Wasyl) and Julia Balash Stanko. She was the last of her immediate family. Julia was a 1942 graduate of Canonsburg High School. On May 23, 1948, she married Paul Rock and spent her life living in Wolfdale. She is the mother of three children; Paul (Gerri) Rock of Wooster, Ohio, Mary Ann (Stephen) Datema of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Helen Kaye (Marty) Strnisha of Washington. Julia was the proud grandmother of Sheena (Michael) Marshall, Jonya Strnisha, Dakota Rock (Laura Skoly), Alyssa Rock, and Cierrah Rock (Ben Griest). Her greatest joy was being called “Baba” by her great-grandchildren Benjamin, Cordelia, and Collette Marshall. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was a lifelong member of St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church in Canonsburg. Julia loved cooking and baking and was always comparing recipes to improve hers; she did not hesitate to tell you her thoughts on your recipe. If she knew your birthday or anniversary, you could count on receiving a card from her and if you wanted to know a date or age, just ask Julia. She also loved watching game shows and her daily soap operas. In February, 2023, she was no longer able to live independently due to COVID and pneumonia. Our family would like to extend our thanks to her friends at Bellmead Apartments for always watching over her, the 5th floor staff at Southmont Presbyterian Senior Care for the wonderful care and love that was given to Julia the past 17 months, and the outstanding care from Amedisys especially the gentle care from Lacey. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, (https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html?sc_icid=about-us-bttn-hero-donate); Amedisys Hospice Care, 450 Racetrack Road, Suite 102, Washington PA 15301; or Presbyterian Senior Care Network Foundation (https://www.givetosrcare.org/donate-now/). All arrangements are private and entrusted to the care of William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd.
