Judith Ann Broggi

February 1, 1941 — July 28, 2021

Judith Ann Broggi, 80, of Washington, died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, surrounded by her family and friends. She was born into a large Irish family in Connellsville on February 1, 1941, daughter of the late Raymond Augustine Black, an electrical engineer, and Florence Pauline Ferrie, an accomplished teacher. She had 4 siblings, including a brother Raymond (deceased) and sisters Jean (deceased), Joan (deceased) and Jane. She was a 1958 graduate of Connellsville High School and then earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Mount Mercy College in 1962. On April 18, 1964, at Immaculate Conception Church in Connellsville, she married Donald James Broggi. They were married for 45 years until his passing on April 14, 2010. She began her career with the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare and later, after raising her family, returned to work as a counselor at the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation. She was a loving mother and wife with a wry sense of humor and a quick wit, who dedicated her career as a social worker to improving the lives of others. She was a skillful chef, and a great aficionado and collector of costume jewelry who also enjoyed her travels to the beach at Cape May, New Jersey with her family. In her younger years, she demonstrated great aptitude for woodworking. Also, an avid reader, she amassed a significant book collection and always enjoyed a good novel. Her passing has left a tremendous void for her family and friends, who will always remember and miss her. Our hearts are broken at her passing. Surviving are her children Shareen E. McNinch and husband James of Washington, Pa; son Donald A. Broggi and wife Louise Slinger of North Stamford, Connecticut with grandchildren Ella, Miles, and Harper; son David James Broggi of Plymouth Meeting, PA with grandchildren Emma and Avery as well as a sister Jane Cusick and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received from 2 PM to 4 PM and 6 PM to 8 PM on Saturday, July 30th at William G. Neal Funeral Home, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, PA. A funeral mass will begin at 12 PM, Sunday, August 1st at Trinity Episcopal Church, 550 South Main Street, with the Rev. Gaea Thompson officiating. Live streaming of the funeral mass will be available at www.trinitywashpa.org for those family and friends that cannot attend in person. Judy will be interred with her late husband at the Washington Cemetery in a private ceremony on Monday.
