John Albert Wurtzer August 18, 1937 – November 2, 2023 John Albert Wurtzer, 86, passed away peacefully at Celebration Villa, in Bridgeville, on November 2, 2023. He was born in Charleroi, on August 18, 1937 and was delivered by his grandmother Emma Rumbaugh. John spent most of his life in the Washington area where he attended Washington Public Schools. On February 8, 1957, John joined the United States Army, doing his basic training at Fort Carson, Colorado. Later he was transferred to Munich, Germany where he served with the 11th Airborne Division in 1957 and 1958. For his service he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. He was Honorably Discharged from the United States Army on January 29, 1959. Mr. Wurtzer worked his adult life in the construction industry. He worked for McAllister Corporation as a Project Manager where he was involved in the building of many local structures including Washington Park School, Trinity Middle School, three dormitories and physical education buildings at W&J College, two additions at the Washington Mall, and a variety of other projects in the area. He also built the Brookville Hospital in Brookville, where he met his wife, Kathy Mumford, who worked at the hospital. John later was employed by TEDCO Construction as an estimator, and was extremely successful in obtaining many projects in the Pittsburgh area. John retired from TEDCO Construction at the age of 70. On August 11, 1989, John married Kathy Sue Mumford, who survives. They became the parents of twin girls in 1992. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are John’s five children, Brad, Krista (Dr. Eric Miller), Kim, Katie (Kyle McLain), and Kelly (Michael Loeffler). John is the proud grandfather to Alyssa (Rob Fisher) Miller, Dalton Miller, Kalynn (Joey Terrell) Hanna, Austin Hanna, Addison McLain, Riley McLain, Hayden McLain, and Elliot Loeffler. Friends and family will be received on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 7 p.m., the time of service, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, with Ray Domachowski officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Amyloidosis Foundation, 7151 N.
