John L. “Jack” Welty, 85, of Washington passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2025.
He was born on December 19, 1939, to John and Helen Steinbrenner Welty in Pittsburgh.
After graduating from Carrick High School, Jack served four years in the U.S. Air Force.
He married Diane Stoebe on March 18, 1966.
After graduating from Computer Systems Institute, he became manager of computer operations for Ralston Purina in Greentree. From there he operated the first computer for Washington County, where he worked for 20 years. Upon retiring, Jack drove a van for GG&C.
Jack volunteered for many years at Pony League games, filling boxes for the Nyadire Connection and most recently, with the Community Circle Food Pantry of Washington.
He was a 50+ year member of Liberty Chapel, where he served as a trustee for many years, sang in the choir and was a hard-working part of the kitchen crew.
Jack played Little League as a boy and ran track in high school. He played softball, racquet ball and threw darts as an adult and enjoyed rooting for the Pirates, Penguins, Steelers and Pitt. He and Diane enjoyed camping, traveling and volunteering.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, April (John) Plants; his grandson, “Demi” John (Kasey) Plants; his great granddaughter, Dixie Plants; and his sister-in-law, Judy Welty.
He was predeceased by his brother Butch, and his sister Susie.
Services will be held at Liberty Chapel, 1330 Banetown Road, Washington at 11:30am on Saturday, April 12, 2025, with lunch to follow.
