John Davis “JD” Mounts, 89, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at his home in Washington, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 28, 1934 in Buffalo Township, the son of the late Abraham D. and Rosella M. Landers Mounts. After graduating from Trinity High School in 1951, John worked as a bus driver for several years prior to working at Federal Paper Board for over 15 years, until their closure. He then began as a rural carrier with the United States Postal Service, from where he retired after 21 years of service. A lifetime dairy farmer, his greatest joy was working alongside his family at Mounts Farm. JD was a long-time member of East Buffalo Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder. An avid dartball player, he played for the East Buffalo and Claysville church dartball teams for over 32 years. He was instrumental in starting the East Buffalo Church team in 1960. He also enjoyed playing softball and had played for many years with the East Buffalo and Federal Paper softball teams. In addition, he was a 4-H and FFA member, and had managed the 4-H Dairy Bar for 17 years. On June 1, 1984 he married his beloved wife, Marian J. Post, who survives. Also surviving are three children, Barbara (Danny) Bergles of Claysville, Jeffrey A. Mounts of Washington, and John D. (Carrie) Mounts of Washington; three step children, Harold “Bud” (Shelley) White of Washington, Don White of Washington, and Phyllis (John) Ross of Washington; a son-in-law, Bryan Miles of Kentucky; 20 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna J. Miles; a step son, Roger White; and two sisters, Ellen McGuier and Winona McCullough. Family and friends are welcome from 3 – 8 PM on Monday, April 1, 2024 at William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Additional visitation will be held from 10 – 11 AM on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, the time of service, at East Buffalo Presbyterian Church, 180 E. Buffalo Church Road, Washington with Pastor Linda Mankey officiating. Interment will follow in Claysville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to East Buffalo Presbyterian Church.
