John Riley McNatt, 82, of Washington, died on July 24, 2023, in Washington Hospital. He was born on September 10, 1940, in Greensboro, a son of the late Dan and Agnes Barnhart McNatt. A graduate of Mapletown High School, in Greensboro, John worked as an electrical assembler for General Motors for twenty-eight years, and as a greeter at Walmart for twenty-nine years. An avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan, he collected diecast model toy vehicles, and Country Western and Bluegrass record albums. John also enjoyed camping at Big Bear Lake, traveling, gardening, and attending Bluegrass festivals. On February 27, 2010, he married Laura LaVerne Fraley Hampe, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Debra Sue (William) Collins; stepdaughters, Darla Dimatteo, Tammy (Donnie) Hall, and Chanin (Eric) Kowcheck; brothers, Dan (Kay) McNatt, Gail (Cecilia) McNatt, and Bill (Linda) McNatt; a sister, Regina Torres; three grandchildren, William, Jr., Timothy, and Andrew; was beloved grandfather to many more grandchildren, step grandchildren, and great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. Deceased are his first wife, Jessie Delphine McNatt; and three stepsons, Roy Porterfield, John Porterfield, and Ronnie Porterfield. Friends and family are welcome on Thursday, July 27, 2023, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, where services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, July 28, 2023.
