John H. Golna, 86, of Washington, died Monday, March 19, 2018. He was born July 29, 1931, in Amwell Township, a son of Peter and Mary Maceyko Golna. Mr. Golna was a proud Army and Korean War combat veteran. He was a long-time member of St. Hilary Church as well as a member of American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175, Washington, and the VFW in Midway. For 18 years, Mr. Golna worked for Tygart Valley, then worked for Washington Steel, from where he retired. He was a long-time Pennsylvania state constable and served as a Democratic Committeeman. Mr. Golna enjoyed his grandchildren and loved the family farm and spending time there. On May 7, 1955, he married Clemence Wade, who died September 28, 2010. Surviving are two sons, John G. (Deborah) Golna and Ronald W. (Mary Beth) Golna, both of Washington; two sisters, Veronica Boone of Hanky Farms and Carolyn (Bill) Zoeller of Claysville; four grandchildren, Dr. Derek Golna of Washington, Justin Golna, a seminarian in Rome, Italy, and Meredith Golna and Ronald A. Golna, both of Washington; and numerous nieces and nephews. Deceased are siblings, Mary Spanogle, Margie Welsh, William Golna, George Golna and Ann Waugh. Friends will be received Thursday from 2 till 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m., Friday, March 23rd, in St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church, with Father Dennis Schuelkens as celebrant. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
