John R. “Pap” Casella, 95, of Washington, passed away Saturday, February 1, 2025, in Greenery Center for Rehab and Nursing, Canonsburg. He was born May 20, 1929, in East Carnegie, a son of the late John R. Casella Sr. and Jenny Bartalo Casella. John proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1951. He retired from Woodville State Hospital, where he worked in the nursing department. John enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, gardening and going to the casino. On September 6, 1952, he married Margaret Martha Ciesielski Casella, who died September 21, 2005. Surviving are a daughter, Barbara (Adrian) Witteman; a son, John M. (Donna) Casella; a brother, Angelo (the late Marilyn) Casella; grandchildren Tori Schumacher, Robert (Samantha) Witteman, Christopher (Charli) Chadwick, Gerry (Amanda) Schumacher, Gail (Keith) Hoppe, Chris (Melanie) Casella, Diana Lynn Casella, John M. Casella Jr., Joseph Casella, Lynn Casella and Kimberly Casella; great-grandchildren Parker , Luna, Remi, Oliver, Ayla, Cadia, Courtnei, Codi, Carter, Hayden, Holden, Hannah, Nathan, Jessica, Adam, Julia and Nicholas; several additional great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Deceased, in addition to his wife and parents, are siblings Anthony, Louis, Michael and Frank Casella, Geraldine Kochosky, Mary Jane Ghelarducci and Philomena Oliastro. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, February 6, 2025, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., Washington, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, February 7, 2025. Entombment will follow in Washington Cemetery.
