Johann Cecelia Shade, 87, passed away on Friday morning, December 20, 2024, at her daughter's home in Washington, with her family around her. She was born April 23, 1937, in Altoona, PA, a daughter of the late John and Bertha Reilly Gibson. Johann is survived by her loving husband, Thomas J. Shade, whom she married on November 19, 1960. She was a graduate of Altoona Catholic High School and went on to attend college classes. Johann was a retired X-ray technician from Mercy Hospital in Altoona; she had also worked at Lang’s locally for ten years. She was an active member of Immaculate Conception Church of St. James Parish as well as a member of Catholic Daughters. Johann loved quilting and was a fervent participant in Martha Washington Quilter's Guild; she loved crocheting, golfing, watching sports especially hockey and football. Above all, Johann loved her children and family. In addition to her husband, Tom, Johann is survived by her daughter Bernadette J. Stiffler; sons Michael T. Shade (Cynthia DeCarlo) and Paul F. Shade; sister Mary Conte (John); grandchildren Emily A. Stiffler and Zachary T. Stiffler; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by daughter Suzanne C. Shade; sisters Betty Gegenfurtner, Christine Gibson, and Kathleen McConnell; and brother John Gibson. Family and friends will be received from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, December 26, 2024, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday in Immaculate Conception Church of St. James Parish in Washington. Interment will follow at Washington Cemetery.
