Joan Elizabeth Mitchell Lytle

July 8, 1943 — October 15, 2017

Joan Elizabeth Mitchell Lytle, 74 of Washington, died on Sunday, October 15, 2017, following a seven-year illness. She was born July 8, 1943 in Washington, a daughter of the late John Elmer and Dorothy Fontenoy Mitchell. Joan was a long-time member of First Christian Church in Washington, where she was baptized. She later attended Pigeon Creek Presbyterian Church in Eighty-Four and The Bible Chapel in the South Hills. Her faith in God was deeply embedded in her soul and was a source of strength and comfort to her throughout her brutal illness. She was a 1961 graduate of Washington High School and later attended Polley Associates Real Estate School.  She worked in bookkeeping and accounting since 1979 and was most recently employed as a Multistate Payroll Specialist by Balfour Beatty Rail, previously known as Metroplex Corporation. Following her retirement, she managed multiple rental properties. Joan was a member of Mensa, the high IQ society. She also enjoyed photography, gardening, natural health and herbs, reading, swimming, and most especially spending time with her grandchildren. “Mom”, “Noanie”, “Grammy” and of course “Joan” will live forever in the hearts of those who loved her. Her children and grandchildren were her angels on Earth. Her legacy is her family. Surviving are her daughter, Cherie (Mark) Moyer and her son, Dennis B. Lytle II both of Washington, her treasured grandchildren: Elizabeth Moyer, Jonathan Moyer, Isabella Moyer, Devlin Lytle and Collin Lytle and her very loyal and devoted brother, Robert J. Mitchell, who was by her side until the end; her former sister in law, Grace Mitchell and her daughter in law, Joell Lytle, held very special places in her heart. She was formerly married to the late Dennis B. Lytle and the late Frank V. Habazin. Friends will be received Thursday, October 19, 2017 from 5 to 8 p.m. at William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Ave, Washington, where services will be held Friday, October 20, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor John Dykstra. Interment will follow at Washington Cemetery.
