Jo Ann Simms, 89, of Washington, passed away Saturday, April 27, 2024, in Greenery Center, Canonsburg. She was born March 12, 1935, in Washington, a daughter of the late Harry F. Claffey and Lucy E. Claffey-Fuchs. Mrs. Simms retired from Washington School District after working 30 years as a teacher aid. She was a member of Fourth Presbyterian Church, where she volunteered with the Ladies Aid. Mrs. Simms enjoyed crossword puzzles and word search. She loved reading Nicholas Sparks books, playing Bingo and sewing. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. She volunteered her time at Thomas Campbell Apartments, helping out in the dining room. On December 6, 1952, she married William Alexander Simms, who passed away December 24, 2014. Surviving are a son, Gregory (Martha) Simms of Fountain Inn, South Carolina; two daughters, Lou Ann (Todd) LeVan of Houston and Billie Jo (Matthew) Mance of Cokeburg; a sister, Mary Lou McCann of Washington; five grandchildren, Cassie, Abby, Matthew, Ali and Mallory; eight great-grandchildren, Reece, Emma, Holdyn, Ryland, Harper, Hudsyn, Havynn and Jaxton; and a nephew, Joel McCann. Deceased, in addition to her husband and parents, are a son, Jonathan L. Simms, and a niece, Lisa Lytton. Family and friends will be received from 3 to 8p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2024, in William G. Neal Funeral Home, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2024. Burial and graveside service will follow in Washington Cemetery.
