Janis Elaine Armstrong

January 7, 1947 — January 12, 2025

Janis Elaine Martin Armstrong January 7, 1947 – January 12, 2025 It is with deep love that we announce the passing of Janis Elaine Martin Armstrong, who left this world surrounded by family on January 12, 2025, following a courageous 18-month battle with ALS. Born on January 7, 1947, at Washington Hospital, Janis was a beacon of joy and warmth to all who knew her. She was the daughter of Elaine and Edwin “Whitey” Martin, and the beloved sister of Richard Martin, Beth Sapp, and JC Martin. A proud graduate of Trinity High School’s Class of 1964, Janis’ spirit for life and family was evident early on. She married Phil Armstrong on February 14, 1967. Together, they built a family that was the center of Janis’ heart as she was a devoted mother to Scott Armstrong (Michelle), Leah Billie (Dan), and Bethany Anderson (Ryan). Janis was also an extraordinary Mimi to her grandchildren: Lauren Hyland (Ryan), Tyler Billie, Austin Armstrong, Isabella Armstrong, Avery Anderson, and Emery Anderson. Janis embraced her role as Great Mimi with the arrival of Flynn, Roman, and Bishop Hyland. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. A dedicated member of Central Assembly of God, Janis led women’s Bible studies and forged lifelong friendships through her church community. Whether enjoying family dinners, hosting vacations, or cheering her children and grandchildren at sporting events, she was always at the center, laughing and loving. Janis was an active member of The Arms Club and the Lone Pine Country Club’s “Patooties,” where she found joy in connecting with friends, sharing stories, and creating bonds that lasted a lifetime. While we mourn her passing, we also celebrate the joy and love she brought into our lives. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who loved her. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, January 16th in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Janis’ family invites those whose lives she touched to join them in a service to honor her life, to be held at Central Assembly of God, 155 McGovern Road, Houston, PA, at 11 a.m., Friday, January 17th. Prior to the service, additional visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. in the church. The family is profoundly thankful to the AGH ALS Center (Dr. Rana), Southmont (Amy, Rachel, and Virginia), and Gateway Hospice (Sue, Todd, and Vesta). In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Janis’ memory to Central Assembly of God or The ALS Association.
