James Amos Thompson Sr.

James Amos Thompson Sr., 76, of Washington, passed away Friday, November 15, 2024, in the VA Hospital H. J. Heinz Campus, Pittsburgh. He was born December 23, 1947, in Washington, a son of the late Edgar Eugene Thompson and Alice May Dow Thompson-Blayney. James was a 1965 graduate of Trinity High School and a graduate of Vale Tech in Blairsville. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Saratoga during Vietnam and was awarded the Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon and National Defense Service Medal. James was employed in law enforcement as a police officer in several boroughs throughout Washington County. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles and was a member of the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club as a retired police officer. James was passionate about playing the steel guitar and greatly enjoyed being a member of several bands during his lifetime. He was a member of Trinity Bible Fellowship Church and Friendship Community Church. He is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia “Patty” Conklin Thompson, whom he married on June 8, 1968. Also survived by two daughters, Dana Knight (James) and Lisa Britt (Jason); a son, James Amos Thompson Jr (Darcy); 11 grandchildren, Jami Gump (David), Christina Knight (Chaz), Michael Knight (Kayla), Lauren Knight (Drew), Kennady Knight, Jameson Britt, AJ Ruffalo, Xander Britt, Brayden Thompson, Sadie Thompson and Gracie Thompson; two great-grandchildren, Liam and Lainey Gump; and several step-siblings. Deceased, in addition to his parents, are a sister, Wanda Perkins, and a brother, Edgar “Buddy” Thompson Jr. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 26, 2024, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday, November 27, 2024. Interment will follow in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township.
