James L. Medlen

James L. Medlen, went to heaven on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, after a long illness with his family by his side. He was born November 8, 1953, a son of James W. Medlen and Mary Moore Medlen of Washington. Surviving are four sisters, Mary Etta Saffell (Dennis, deceased), Nancy Medlen Carpenter (Donald), Alberta Jackson (Roy) and Tammy Medlen; a brother, Albert D. Medlen (Lorraine). Deceased are a sister, Donna (Harry, deceased) Weaver. Jim married February 1980 to the love of his life, Janet K. Lindley Medlen of Washington. Jim worked for Waste Management in Washington for 20 years. He was also a treatment foster parent who mentored youth at Presley Ridge in Pittsburgh and Uniontown for 20 years. He enjoyed being an extra in movies in Pittsburgh along with his wife, working on cars and trucks, riding motorcycles with his friends, and he loved animals. He had a big beautiful family with his wife, including, sons Robert J. Medlen, Eric A. Rivera, Douglas J. Medlen (Candice), Eric J. Medlen (Crystal), Darnell K. Medlen (Jayme), Antonio Medlen, Tracy Medlen, Dametric Medlen, Carlies Medlen (Willow) and Keith Davis, Raylaun, Medlen; loving daughter Aryonna Medlen (Ryan); Melanie Pivarnick; former daughter-in-law, Melanie Pivarnick, he was still close to over the years; a daughter from a previous marriage, Holly Medlen, who will live in his heart forever; special caregiver and nephew Anthony G. Rivera, who was his loyal caregiver for the last year; and Preston Rivera his giver of hope. In his final days, his father-in-law, George Dawes, who he was close to over the years, who he said he will never forget. He was uncle to 20 nieces and nephews who he loved teasing, and the grandfather of 12; and granddaughter Serenity called herself his little angel, who made him laugh nonstop. He wanted his family and friends to know he cherished them and would forever into eternity. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 7:30 p.m., the time of service, Tuesday, July 30, 2024, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington.
