James C. “Cliff” Herschell, age 80, of Washington, passed away on August 28, 2021, after a fiercely fought battle with lung cancer. He was born on December 10, 1940, in Washington, PA, the son of Frances (Richey) and Boyd Herschell. Cliff was a hard-working entrepreneur. After working for 35 years as a mechanic at Jessop Steel he retired only to begin a second career in the restaurant industry, ultimately owning and managing three restaurants (Grande Continental Cuisine, The Doghouse, City Limits). He enjoyed spending time on his farm, watching his horses, restoring old cars and spending time with friends and family. He leaves behind his three daughters Jacque Ondash of Holly Ridge, NC, Crystal (Ken) Glover of Washington, PA and Amy (Aaron) Herschell Mowry of Wexford, PA. He was a loving grandfather of 8: Amanda McCoy, Stephen Ondash, and Danielle Curtis; Kenny, Chelsea and Nicholas Glover; and Lucas and Rachel Mowry. He was a loving great-grandfather to 3: Lauren McCoy, Benjamin Curtis, and Charlotte Glover. He also leaves behind one sister, Nancy Marie (Don) Casto. He was preceded in death by four siblings: Pansy, Katherine “Ruth,” Glenn “Vernon” and Paul Herschell. He had been married to Teresa “Terry” Herschell for 34 years. She died October 13, 2020. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Cliff’s name can be made to Washington County 4-H. Checks should be made to “Penn State Cooperative Extension,” Attention Sheila Hackinson, Washington County 4-H, 100 W. Beau Street, 601 Courthouse Square, Washington, PA, 15301. 100% of memorial funds will be used for youth programming and awards.
