James Allen “Bucky” Selway, of Washington, died December 13, 2023. He was born September 20, 1937, the son of the late James Elmer and Mary Fox Selway. After graduating in 1955 from Washington High School, he served in the US Navy and was honorably discharged in 1958. Mr. Selway was involved in the family business, J.E. Selway Exterminating, and also owned and operated Jim Selway Carpet Cleaning. He was employed at O’Brian Steel Corporation, Findlay Refractories as a draftsman, and later at McGraw Edison/ Cooper Industries in Canonsburg as a production scheduler, from where he retired. James was a member of the first PONY League World Series Baseball team representing the city of Washington. Mr. Selway was so proud when he escorted his daughter Lynn as part of the homecoming court at West Virginia University. He coached his son through his athletic achievements and was so proud when Michael was named to the Trinity High School Basketball Hall of Fame. He was Baptist by faith. On June 17, 1961, he married Rosalie Washinski at Immaculate Conception Church (now St. James Parish) in Washington. Surviving are his wife, Rosalie; children, Lynn Selway Yusim of Virginia and Michael (Carol Ann) Selway of Washington; grandchildren, Aidan Michael Selway and Andrew James Selway; a sister, Patricia Melott of Oklahoma; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased, in addition to his parents, are his sister, Jacqueline Selway Kaiser, and stepbrothers, Dick and Jack Selway. At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing. Burial will be at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies on Friday, December 22nd, at 1 p.m. Those wishing to attend the burial service are asked to go directly to the cemetery by 12:30 p.m. The family thanks the staff at Paramount Personal Care Senior Living in Peters Township for their outstanding care of James “Bucky.” Memorial contributions in his name may be made to Citizens Library, 55 South College Street, Washington, PA 15301.
