James Wesley Armstrong, 71, of Washington, died Sunday, January 26 2020, in Veterans Administration Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born March 12, 1948, in Washington, a son of the late Carl Armstrong and Christine Hartley Armstrong. Mr. Armstrong graduated from California High School and served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He was awarded a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Army Commendation Medal. He was honorably discharged on December 23, 1969. Mr. Armstrong worked as a telecommunications engineer for Bell Atlantic. He enjoyed going to the casino and traveling, was active in the VFW, and was a member of Washington Alliance Church and the Moose. Surviving are a son, Wesley Armstrong; a daughter, Wendy Yantek; his long-time companion, Autumn Gordon; two brothers, Rick (Ruth) Armstrong and Carl (Linda) Armstrong; four sisters, Louise (Ron) Binns, Brenda (Jeff) Shearer, Sandra (Mark) Ramsey and Kathy Armstrong; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are two brothers, Jack and Fred Armstrong. A memorial service be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, February 7, 2020, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Inurnment will follow in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township.
