Jack Warren Pilgun, II, 78, of Washington, died Monday, June 4, 2018, in the Washington Hospital. He had been in declining health for the past five years. He was born January 13, 1940, in Washington, a son of the late Jack Warren Pilgun and Myrtle Nellie Jones Pilgun. Mr. Pilgun graduated from Washington High School, class of 1958, and from Pittsburgh Technical Institute with a degree in Industrial Engineering. He served in the U.S. Navy from February 11, 1959, until his honorable discharge on February 8, 1963, with a rank of Aviation Electrician’s Mate, 3rd class. During his enlistment, he served with Naval Squadron V-Q-1. Mr. Pilgun worked for Tri State Engineering for many years. In 1984, he became the executive director of Washington-Greene County Blind Association. Following his retirement from the Blind Association, he spent many winters in Florida, travelled all over the United States, and enjoyed cooking his famous spaghetti and making wine. He also enjoyed listening to old-time country music. An avid outdoorsman, Mr. Pilgun hunted and fished throughout North America. He was a member of American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175, Italian American Club, Buckskinners of Washington, Washington Timing Association, and Washington Lodge #164, F & A.M., Coudersport Consistory. In addition, he was a lifetime member of North America Fishing Club and was past president of Lions Club International, where he was honored with the Melvin Jones Award. On May 26, 1962, he married Ruth Reynard, who survives. Also surviving are a brother, Richard E. (Patty) Pilgun of Washington; two sisters, Mary Kiger of Georgia and Carol Daniels of Washington; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and Friday June 8th, from 2 to 4 p.m., the time of service, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with Pastor Debra Rogosky officiating. Private burial in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies will be held at a later date.
