J. “Jean” Elgaline Sprowls, of Washington, formerly of Hickory, passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2018, in her home. She was born on August 20, 1925, in Washington, a daughter of the late Elgie “Jack” Plants, and Mary Seaman Plants. She was one of two children. Mrs. Sprowls worked at the former K-Mart in Washington, and at Grosses Market in Hickory. After working at Grosses Market, she and her husband babysat numerous children from the Hickory and nearby areas. Jean loved to listen to country music, her talking books, crocheting, and having the company of her dog Lola by her side. On December 28, 1945, she married Elmer Sprowls, who passed away on July 19, 2018. They were married for 72 years. Surviving are a son, Keith (Janice) Sprowls, of McDonald; adopted daughter, Debbie (Bill) Neal, of Washington; five grandchildren, Ryan (Angela) Sprowls, of New Jersey, Mackenzie (Jonathan) Warner, of South Dakota, Evan (Quesha) Sprowls, of Florida, Brandley (Linda) Danjou, of Markleysburg, and Bronson Danjou, of Greensburg; five great grandchildren, Dylon Sprowls, Rylie Sprowls, Olivia Warner, Emmaline Warner, and Harley Danjou; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Deceased are a daughter, Lynn Ann Tarris; a brother, Elgie Plants, Jr.; and her beloved dog Lola. Friends will be received on Sunday, December 16, 2018, from 2 to 6:00 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, PA, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 17, 2018. Burial will follow in Mt. Prospect Cemetery, Hickory.
