Inez Shriver

June 24, 1927 — June 9, 2018

Inez Juanita Faux Shriver, 90, of Washington, died June 9, 2018, in Keyser, WV, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born at home in Kuhntown, Whiteley Township, Greene County, on June 24, 1927, the oldest of nine children of the late Sanford Arthur Faux and Linnie April Stewart Faux. A graduate of Waynesburg High School, Mrs. Shriver graduated from Washington Hospital School of Nursing in 1948, and from California University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing.  She worked as a registered nurse for 38 years at Washington Manor, which then became Washington Hospital’s Extended Care Facility, where she also served as Director of Nursing for many years.  Mrs. Shriver was a devoted nurse whose life revolved around helping others, especially geriatric patients.  She was very proud to have graduated from Washington Hospital School of Nursing and worked for Washington Hospital, where she also volunteered until nearing her 90th birthday. Mrs. Shriver was a devoted and active member of First Christian Church, Washington, where she also taught Sunday School. She was a member of Eastern Star, Sweet Adelines, Washington Hospital Nurses Alumni Association and the Armadillo CB Club, where she was known as “Queen Bee.” Mrs. Shriver was very proud of her family and was a compassionate wife, mother, teacher and friend. Surviving are four sons, James R. Shriver, Jr., of Waynesburg, Larry W. (Cindy) Shriver of Julian, California, Gary N. (Debbie) Shriver of Washington, and Donald E. (Marian) Shriver, Sr., of Waynesburg; a daughter, Sandy L. (Ken) Cook of Capon Bridge, West Virginia; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lloyd Creighton (Patty) Faux of Imperial and Orville Linn Fox of Winchester, Virginia; one sister, Dorothy Evlyn Fox Stickles of Washington; and many nieces and nephews. Deceased are her former husband, James Robert Shriver, and five brothers, Charles Arthur Faux, Ernest Virgil Faux, Norman Glenn Fox, Furman Francis Fox and Delbert Paul Fox. Friends will be received on Thursday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 15th, with Rev. Stephen Smythers officiating.  Private burial will be held in Claughton Chapel Cemetery, Whiteley Township, Greene County.
