Herschel D. Knox

Herschel D. Knox, Jr., 77, of Washington, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 2, 2023, in the Washington Hospital, following a lengthy illness. He was born in Washington on November 21, 1946, a son of Herschel D. Knox, Sr., and Maxine Miles. He was raised by his maternal grandparents, Harry and Mary Loughman. Mr. Knox lived his entire life in Washington County. He spent nearly 60 years in the trucking industry. In 2008, he started his own trucking company, H & S Trucking, which he operated with his son until his retirement in 2022. He was a member of various social clubs in Washington, where he spent time catching up with lifelong friends. He was also a member of the the Free and Accepted Masons, Sunset Lodge #237, Washington, and Scottish Rite, Coudersport, PA. Surviving are two sons, Timothy (Cara), of Nampa, ID, and Teddy (Tammie), of Washington; one granddaughter, Lindsay Knox; three grandsons, Tyler (Courtney) Knox, Zak Knox, Tanner Knox, Tyson Knox; and three great grandsons, Kelson, Jaxsen, and Asher; and one sister, Betty Bunting. Deceased are four brothers, Harry Knox, Dennis Knox, George Knox, and Tommy Knox; and one sister, Linda Knox. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorial donations be made to St Jude Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959. Mr. Knox was an advocate for finding a cure for childhood cancer. Family and friends will be received Thursday, December 7, 2023, 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where the service will take place on Friday December 8th at 12 pm. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens.
