Harold Edward King

Harold Edward King, of Washington, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2024. He was born June 13, 1935, in Washington, a son of the late William E. King and Mary Wolfe King. Harold was a lifetime resident of Washington and was involved in many activities in the community throughout his lifetime. He was an avid sports fan, and was known for his bowling skills in many leagues around Washington. He was very involved, for many years, with the Pony Youth Baseball League and the Pony League World Series in Washington. Harold was a 1953 graduate of Washington High School. He served in the Navy during the Korean War and was stationed aboard the aircraft carrier USS Valley Forge. Harold worked for the US Postal Service for 39 years as a clerk in the office located in Washington. In his retirement years, he worked for the Washington Wild Things Baseball team as an usher and general assistant to the grounds crew at the ballpark. On April 4, 1959, he married Margaret “Peg” Davis, in the First Baptist Church in Washington. Peg preceded him in death on April 12, 2011. Surviving are two children, a daughter, Denise King, and a son, Daryl King, who resides in South Carolina with his wife, Janet; a sister, Linda Crouser; three grandchildren, Jessica (Kevin) McCrory, Justin King and Thomas King; two great-grandchildren, Leeana and Kaiya; and several nieces and nephews all around the Washington area. A heartfelt thank you also goes to his sister-in-law, Vickie Green, who has always been there to help with his care and for the family as needed. Deceased are a brother, James J. King, and a sister, Shirley A. King Gradert. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2024, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 18, 2024. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery.
