Harold William “Bill” Hanna, 85, of Washington, succumbed to a long illness on August 24, 2021, at home. He was born August 12, 1936, in Washington, the son of the late Walter and Thelma Harshman Hanna. Bill was a 1954 graduate of Trinity High School and was a retired mechanic. He actively served in the US Army from 1959 to 1962, earning the rank of SPC 4, and becoming a member of the Big Red 1, as a marksman. He was an inactive member of the National Guard until 1965. Bill was a football fan and enjoyed woodworking and fishing. He loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. On September 21, 1959, Bill married Frances McKean Hanna, who survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Cathy Hanna; grandson, Jeremy Hanna; granddaughter, Caitlin (Donny Gillece) Hanna; two brothers, Richard (Evelyn) Hanna, and Robert (Trudy) Hanna; a sister, Patricia Onopiuk; and many nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by brothers, Edward Hanna and Gerald Hanna Sr. and sisters, Delores Tarr and Cheryl Coats. Friends and family will be received from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Wednesday, September 1, 2021, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., Washington, where military honors will be accorded by Claysville American Legion Post 0639 at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
