Goldie I. Cress, 96, of Washington, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2024, at Southmont Presbyterian Senior Care, Washington, surrounded by family. She was born March 7, 1927, in Washington, a daughter of William Naylor and Melissa “Lizzie” Rood Naylor. Goldie operated a personal care home, out of her residence, caring for many elderly women. This gave her the opportunity to raise her three daughters, have a home cooked meal on the table every day and still do what she loved best, yardwork, cutting grass and going to yard sales. She was a member of Friendship Community Church and an auxiliary member of Claysville Legion Post 639. On October 2, 1947, she married Edward P. Cress, who died December 17, 2014. They had been married for 67 years. Deceased are a daughter, Barbara Clemens; a grandson, Jason Clemens; six brothers, Charles, Grover, Orvel, Wilbert, Ora and Eddie Naylor; four sisters, Emma Stewart, Rosie Garrett, Hazel Caldwell and Flora Horner. Surviving are two daughters, Penny Seaman (James Pryor) and Eva (Kevin) White; four grandchildren, Misty Harvey (Chuck Cunningham), Justin (Tanya) Seaman, Amanda (Joey) Avelar and Travis (Rebecca) Cress; and seven great-grandchildren, Madison Harvey, Davin and Zander Seaman, Austin, Zachery and Haley Avelar and Noah Cress. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2024, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2024. Burial will follow in Claysville Cemetery. The family would like to thank the wonderful angels at Southmont Presbyterian Senior Care, Brad, Jackie and Paula.
