George H. McGary, Jr., 70, of Washington, died on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, in Pittsburgh. He was born on April 15, 1948, in Washington, a son of the late George H. McGary, Sr. and Marian Jeffers McGary. A graduate of Trinity High School, he also attended Clarion University. Mr. McGary served in the U.S. Army from 1969 until 1971, where he was a military policeman, assigned to Ft. Riley, Kansas. In 2009, he retired from the Department of Public Welfare, where he worked as a supervisor. An avid hunter who loved woodworking, Mr. McGary was an active coach of youth sports at the Brownson House, and was also involved in the Pony League and Canton Township girls softball. On July 12, 1969, he married Julia Drab, who survives. Also surviving are two children, Melissa (Joseph) DiPardo, of Reston, VA and George H. (Jennifer) McGary, III, of Haddonfield, NJ; two sisters, Sharon (Jim) Hazen, of Claysville and Mindy (Joe) Spino, of Amity; three precious granddaughters, Jessica and Julianne McGary and Gillian DiPardo; as well as several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 19, 2018, at 11:00 a.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, PA.
