It is with heavy hearts that those who loved him mourn the passing of George H. Block III, on July 25, 2022. George was born October 31, 1935, in the town of Lawrence, a son of the late George H. Block, Jr. and Audrey McConnell Block. He lived most of his adult life in Eighty Four. Later, he moved in with his daughter, Kathy, in South Strabane Township, where he passed away peacefully, surrounded by family. George is survived by his daughter, Kathy (Mike) Ward; his son, Patrick (Shelly) Block; five grandchildren, Doug (Hiromi) Byrd, Jen (Nick) Bickel, Chris (Kirsten) Block, Jessica Alziyadi, and James (Niko) Ward; as well as many great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Eileen, his parents, and a sister. George grew up playing baseball in Lawrence. Later he worked at J&L Steel in Pittsburgh, where he retired when the plant closed. Following his retirement, he embarked on a writing career, that would take him many places. He wrote prolifically for 45 years, and was published in Fur-Fish-Game Magazine, PA Game News, American Hunter, PA Sportsmen, and his favorite weekly article in the Observer-Reporter. Mr. Block belonged to Pennsylvania Outdoor Writers Association, and published a book entitled "Blocks Buck Book." The whole family was involved in his many adventures. He taught all his family members to hunt, fish, and love the outdoors. George was a scorer for Boone and Crockett and Pope and Young, until 2020, when he decided it was time to retire. He was an avid speaker, and entertained many people with his talks on hunting and fishing. For years, he traveled about Washington and Greene counties, hunting, fishing and visiting friends. At the end of his life, he still had the desire to spend time outside. His life's work will live on in many ways, including the George H. Block Conservation Scholarship. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the George H. Block Conservation Scholarship Fund, C/O PNC Bank at Trinity Point, 319 Washington Rd., Washington, PA 15301. Friends and family are welcome on Friday, July 29, 2022, from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, PA, where services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, July 30, 2022, with Dr. Douglas Byrd officiating. **The family requests that all attending the visitation or services please wear a mask.** Burial will follow in Finleyville Cemetery, where George will rest beside Eileen. The family would like to express their gratitude for the wonderful care that was provided by all his "lovelies" from Concordia Hospice.
