George William "GeeGee" Shargots, Jr., of McMurray, died on February 19, 2022, in St. Clair Hospital. He was born on July 16, 1936, in Marianna, a son of the late George Anthony Shargots, Sr. and Sophia Kaminski Shargots. A 1953 graduate of West Bethlehem High School, where he was Valedictorian of his class, Mr. Shargots earned his Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and education from California University of Pennsylvania; went on to earn his Master's degree in mathematics and education from Arizona University, before completing two years of doctoral work at the University of Pittsburgh. He was a veteran of the United States Army Reserves. In high school, he was an outstanding athlete, having played football, basketball and baseball. He also played baseball and basketball at California State University. He was a member of St. Benedict the Abbot Church in McMurray. Mr. Shargots was a mathematics teacher at Mt. Lebanon Middle School for thirty years, where he also coached football. He also coached the Marianna American Legion Baseball Team for a number of years. He was a member of the National Education Association (NEA) and the Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA). A man with a passion for watching and participating in all sports, George loved gardening and working around the house, but he especially loved his nieces and nephews, and attending their events. Surviving are two brothers, James (Mabel) Shargots, of Washington, and Michael Shargots (Natalie), of Deemston; two sisters, Susan (Sam) Mazzaferri, of Clarksville, and Phyllis (Sam) Kightlinger, of Washington; many nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews. Deceased are two brothers, Stephen and Richard Shargots; and a sister, Barbara Keys. At the request of the deceased, all services will be private, and held at the convenience of the family.
