Gary Donald Smith, 56, of Avella, died on December 10, 2021 in his home. He was born on November 9, 1965, in Washington, a son of Elaine H. Dryer Smith, of Washington, and the late Donald Keenan Smith. A graduate of Avella High School, Gary went on to earn an undergraduate degree from Edinboro University, and his master's degree from California University of Pennsylvania. He worked as an infrastructure engineer for Duquesne Light. Mr. Smith was a member of Grove United Presbyterian Church in West Middletown. Gary loved his Bassett Hound, Dorothy. He loved to reenact, having established a reenactment group over twenty years ago called the 42nd Graham's Company. A man who loved woodworking, Gary enjoyed working on the family farm, and hiking with his son Tom. On September 19, 1992, he married the love of his life, Mary Jo Saeli, with whom he spent twenty-nine wonderful years. Surviving, in addition to his wife, Mary Jo, are his son, Thomas Keenan Smith, of Avella; his daughter, Molly Smith, of Harrisburg; his sister-in-law, Elisa Tuznik; and two nephews, Mason and Keenan Smith. Deceased are a brother, Jonathan Lee Smith; and a sister, Kimberly Susan Smith. Friends will be received on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, from 2 until 4 p.m. and 6 until 8 p.m., in Grove United Presbyterian Church, 125 E Main St, West Middletown, PA 15379, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, with Rev. Terry Lucarelli officiating. Burial will follow in West Middletown Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 600 Waterfront Dr #210, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.
