Fred N. Hampe

Fred N. Hampe, Jr., 92, of Washington, passed away in Allegheny General Hospital on January 28, 2017. He was born November 5, 1925, in Washington, a son of Fred and Pearl Fisher Hampe. Mr. Hampe was a veteran of World War II, having served as a Private First Class with the 102nd Infantry Division from the Seigfried Line to Berlin.  He was awarded a Bronze Star, Purple Heart with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 2 bronze battle stars, and World War II Victory Medal.  Mr. Hampe was a life member of VFW Post 191 in Canonsburg. He was employed at Washington Steel in Washington for 36 years and for the last 17 years has proudly worked with his son cleaning air ducts, where he thoroughly enjoyed meeting and talking with customers, especially about his experiences in the war.  On June 2, 1951, he married the love of his life, Dorothy “Dot” Serwatka, who passed away February 17, 2011. Surviving are a son, Ron and wife Debbie of McDonald; his “Pumpkin” and dearly loved granddaughter, Alicia of Washington; her boyfriend DJ Morgan; two very special nieces, Jacki Fulmer and Kathy McCrerey, whom he considered to be his daughters; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Hampe was the last of his immediate family. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donald, David and Thomas; and sisters, Beatrice Hergert, Marie Rhodes and Alma Mull. At the request of the deceased, all services were private.  Mr. Hampe was laid to rest in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Pamela Paulisick, Fawn Meadow Farm (a Wildlife Shelter), 6192 Kemerer Hollow Road, Export PA 15632, or a local shelter or wildlife rescue of the donor’s choice.
