Fred H. Ankrom

Fred H. Ankrom, 88, of West Finley, died October 16, 2022, in his home. He was born May 4, 1934, in Washington, the son of the late Frederick D. and Mary Stephens Ankrom. A 1954 graduate of Trinity High School, he worked at Union Camp for 29 years, as an operator and dye man. Fred was a member of East Finley Church of God, and Masonic Lodge, Claysville. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and word puzzles in the newspaper. An avid Pirates fan, he also enjoyed watching religious programs on TV. He liked keeping up with current events and listening to country and blue grass music. Fred served his country in the Army. A member of the 10th Infantry in Salinas CA, he was a Staff Sargent at the time of his discharge. On June 8, 1957, Fred married Mary Garuccio, who survives. Also surviving are daughter, Barbara Ankrom, Loretta (Richard) Cobb, and Cheryl Prosser; brothers, Robert (Kay) Ankrom, and Edward Ankrom; grandchildren, Angela Haberthier, Kenneth S. Keener, Lydia Lingis, Amanda Prosser, Amy Stay, Robert Davis, and Lauren Richardson; great-grandchildren, Klover, Kenneth David, Logan, Charles, Hunter, Kimber, and Kinsley Rea Esther; life-ling friend, Kenneth Keener, Sr., who was like a son to him; cousin, Linda Stiles; sister-in-law, Nancy Derry; and many nieces and nephews; and his beloved cat, Baby Girl. Fred was preceded in death by his daughter, Esther Bernice Davis and sisters, Arvella Priggs. Charlotte Miller, and Alice Wright. Family and friends will be received Wednesday, October 19, 2022, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington; where a service will be held Thursday, October 20, 2022, at 10 am, with Pastor Paul Thomas officiating. Interment to follow in Prosperity Cemetery.
