Frank Herbert McClenathan, 92, of Prosperity, died Friday, May 12, 2017, in Donnell House, following a brief illness.
He was born February 13, 1925, in Vankirk Station, a son of Wylie and Mary Baker McClenathan.
A World War II veteran, Mr. McClenathan served in the Navy from June 28, 1943, until his honorable discharge as an Aviation Ordnanceman, first class, on November 25, 1947. For his service, he was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
He worked for Cameron Coca-Cola for 10 years as a driver, then at Columbia Gas in various jobs, retiring after 30 years of service.
Mr. McClenathan was a member and former elder of Upper Ten Mile Presbyterian Church, Prosperity, and a member of the Odd Fellows, Masonic Lodge in Claysville and the American Legion in Claysville. He volunteered with Morris Township Volunteer Fire Department and previously served on the board of Prosperity Cemetery.
On November 12, 1951, he married Norma June Day, who died March 21, 2014.
Surviving are three daughters, Joy McClenathan of Houston, Sherry Cantaral (Robert) of West Finley and Lisa McClenathan of Washington; and three grandchildren, Ashley, Lauren and Cody Cantaral.
Deceased are his siblings, William and James McClenathan, Fred “Sam” McClenathan, Jean Day, Margaret Townsend, Sara Cale, Ellen Wilson and Mary Louise “Dot” Wall.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 16th, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Burial in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies will be private and at the convenience of the family.
